HOW TO GO FROM SWEET HOME TO THE AIRPORT OF SANTO DOMINGO?

Once and for all, we have summarized the different options you would have to go from Sweet Home to the Santo Domingo - International Airport of Las Américas (also known as AILA)

TAKING A TAXI FROM SWEET HOME TO THE SANTO DOMINGO – INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OF LAS AMERICAS (AILA)

Journey Duration: 2-2.5 hours

Journey cost: between RD$9,000 and RD$10,000

Those who prefer the maximum level of comfort while traveling can enjoy a direct private transfer from Sweet Home Punta Cana Guest House to the Santo Domingo – International Airport of Las Américas for a total of USD$165 - USD$175; being this the most expensive option of all.

​

Ordering an UBER is also possible and rates would be slightly lower.

 

TIPS ON UBER IN PUNTA CANA - some UBER drivers will try to charge you an additional fee in cash - which is NOT mandatory and could be considered a scam. For this reason, whenever ordering an UBER always reconfirm with the driver that the rate to pay at the end of the ride will be the one shown in the platform.

DRIVING FROM SWEET HOME TO THE  SANTO DOMINGO – INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OF LAS AMERICAS (AILA)

Journey Duration: 2.5-3 hours

Journey cost: between RD$4,000 and RD$11,000

 

This option is for the more independent travelers, who prefer to be in control of their whole trip but who also seek comfort above all, being therefore this option, the second most expensive one to get to the capital from Punta Cana.
 

As far as EXPENSES are concerned, find below the costs to consider:

 

- Daily cost of vehicle rental (between about RD$2,700 and RD$8,500)

- Fuel or GAS (between about RD$1,000 – RD$2,500)

   Total cost of tolls of RD$320; summarized as follows:
+ RD$100 in Coral 2 toll 
+ RD$60 in Coral 1 toll 
+ RD$100 in La Romana toll 
+ RD$60 in Las Américas toll

 

As far as SIGNALING is concerned, if you plan to be driving without WIFI, you would need to follow the following route:
 

- Punta Cana to Bayahibe
- Bayahibe to La Romana
- La Romana towards San Pedro
- San Pedro to Santo Domingo

- a left at La Caleta before arriving to the city of Santo Domingo
 

If your vehicle has GPS or your phone has WIFI, simply help yourself with any app such as Google Maps, WAZE, etc.

IMPORTANT:

 

Most rental car companies accept to deliver/receive vehicle at the airport – which could save you some time and money! Just make sure to reconfirm with rental car company if collection/drop off of the vehicle is possible at this location and if there would be any additional fees to make.

TAKING THE BUS FROM SWEET HOME TO THE SANTO DOMINGO - INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OF LAS AMERICAS

Journey Duration: 2.5-3 hours

Journey cost: between RD$450 and RD$500

 

For those interested in the cheapest way to go from Sweet Home Punta Cana to the Santo Domingo – International Airport of Las Américas, let us explain to you how to take the bus!

 

For this route, you will first need to go from Sweet Home to Expreso Bávaro & APTRA bus station, and then from there you would need to take another bus in direction to Santo Domingo.

 

1- First, you will need to go from Sweet Home to Expreso Bávaro & APTRA bus station, in order to get there:
 

- You can ask us for a private transfer for USD$15 (RD$800)

- You can request an UBER for USD$10 – USD$15 (RD$500 – RD$800)

- You can take a moto-taxi for USD$10 – USD$15 (RD$500 – RD$800); these are located right outside our residential complex, in front of the super-market.

- You can take a 25 minute BUS RIDE in direction to Friusa for USD$1 – USD$1.5 (RD$50 – RD$75). Public buses can be taken right outside our residential complex (they pass every 20-30 minutes). Get off the bus at FRIUSA and once there, cross the street to the bus station of EXPRESO BAVARO - APTRA - SITRABAPU. 

 

2- Once you arrive to APTRA & Expreso Bávaro bus station, you will need to take a second bus in direction to Santo Domingo and ask to be dropped off at the Santo Domingo – International Airport of Las Américas.

 

Tickets cost between RD$400 and RD$450 per person - we always recommend our guests to arrive at least one hour in advance to avoid make sure tickets are available, since they cannot be purchased ONLINE nor prior to departure day.

 

The departure times of Expreso Bávaro & APTRA go as follows:

 

- 5:00 a.m.

- 7:00 am

- 9:00 am

- 11:00 am

- 1:00 pm

- 3:00 pm

- 4:00 p.m

It is important to take into account that the bus makes several stops and that it will be YOUR responsibility to inform the bus assistant you will be needing to get off at the Santo Domingo – International Airport of Las Américas. If you have any doubts, make sure to reconfirm these details with the bus assistant before departing!

TAKING THE BUS AFTER 4:00PM 

TO THE SANTO DOMINGO - INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OF LAS AMERICAS

Journey Duration: 3-4.5 hours

Journey cost: between RD$450 and RD$550

 

If you aren't able to catch any of the direct buses before 4:00pm, this APTRA & SITRABAPU HIGÜEY detour will be equally economical as the direct transfer options.

For this route you will first need to go from Sweet Home to Expreso Bávaro & APTRA bus station, then from there you would take a second bus in direction to Higüey and from there, a third and final bus in direction to Santo Domingo.

1- First, you will need to go from Sweet Home to Expreso Bávaro & APTRA bus station, in order to get there:
 

- You can ask us for a private transfer for USD$15 (RD$800)

- You can request an UBER for USD$10 – USD$15 (RD$500 – RD$800)

Tickets from Higüey to Punta Cana cost RD160 – RD$180 per person and they cannot be purchased ONLINE nor prior to departure day.
 

APTRA & SITRABAPU buses depart from the bus station every 20-30 minutes, being the duration of the transfer from Higüey to Punta Cana of 45-60 minutes.

 

Take into account that buses from Punta Cana to Higüey will depart only until 10:00apm BUT the last bus from Higüey to Santo Domingo departs at 8:30pm!
 

It is important to take into account that the bus makes several stops and that it will be YOUR responsibility to inform the bus assistant you will be needing to get off at APTRA HIGÜEY to catch your next bus.
 
3- Once you get off at the APTRA stop in Higüey, you will take another bus in direction to Santo Domingo and ask to be dropped off at the Santo Domingo – International Airport of Santo Domingo.

These buses depart every 30 minutes from 4:00am to 8:30pm and cost RD$350 per person.

 

The duration of the ride from Higüey to Santo Domingo would be of around two hours.

 

Again, it is important to take into account that the bus makes several stops and that it will be YOUR responsibility to inform the bus assistant the name of the stop where you will be getting off once in Santo Domingo.
